Where to Stay in Grindelwald

Grindelwald is the biggest village in the Jungfrau region, spread along a sunny slope under the north face of the Eiger. It has the widest choice of hotels in the mountains and two big lifts, First and the Eiger Express.

The Short Answer

Stay in the village center, along the Dorfstrasse between the station and the First gondola. You can walk to the trains, the lifts and the restaurants, and many hotels look straight at the Eiger. Our pick is the Hotel Belvedere, five minutes from the station, with a pool and free pick-up.

Stay in Grindelwald Grund, at the bottom of the village, to be first on the Eiger Express to the Jungfraujoch and the ski area. Stay on the slopes above or across the valley for quiet and the widest views, as long as you don't mind a shuttle or a climb. If you want lower prices and more evening options, stay in Interlaken and come up by train.

The Lifts, and When They Close

  • Eiger Express: the 15-minute gondola from Grindelwald Terminal in Grund to the Eigergletscher station, where you change for the Jungfraujoch. From Grindelwald Terminal to the Jungfraujoch takes about 45 minutes in all.
  • Grindelwald First: a 25-minute gondola ride via Bort and Schreckfeld, from a valley station about 10 minutes' walk from the train station. At the top is the First Cliff Walk, a walkway bolted to the cliff 45 meters long.
  • Maintenance: the lifts close for a few weeks between seasons. In 2026 the First gondola is closed from 26 October to 27 November and the Eiger Express from 9 to 20 November.
  • Some hotels close too. Of our picks, Hotel Aspen is closed from 8 November to 10 December 2026 and Hotel Kirchbühl from 1 November to 11 December 2026.
